The Dow and S&P are both within reach of hitting all-time highs despite the housing and credit problems. Is this irrational?
The international press often runs articles talking about the Fed bailing out the U.S. markets (again). Maybe the Fed bailed out the equity indices to the point where they can make new highs again so quickly and without the market properly digesting the problems.
My question is: Have the U.S. stock markets ever been so near all-time highs when the risks of a recession are seen as 30-50%?
I would love to invest money into the stock market, end up owning parts of large companies, at such an young age. How do I go about doing that? I read an article on an girl who mother let her daughter invest $50 monthly & now she own part of Wendy’s, McDonalds, & Footlocker. AMAZING!

I’ve read articles that say supply and demand are NOT the major drivers for today’s high oil price. It’s oil futures trading on unregulated markets and massive speculation in these markets.
According to an article on Yahoo, Detroit is #1 for the weakest housing market. If you lived in an area where people couldn’t give away homes for free, and houses are being foreclosed left and right, but you had to stay (for the time being) would you rent or buy? I am hesitant to invest in a house with the national housing market the way it is. A friend of my husband’s bought a small house in a suburb of Detroit and invested thousands and thousands of dollars into it. I would be worried that if I needed to move, I would either lose money on the deal or wouldn’t get a buyer. My mother in law has had her house up for sale for a year. My husband and I rent. Many say that is throwing money away, but in an unstable economy, it is nice to not be locked into a 30 year mortgage. Especially, when our unemployment rate is almost double the national average.
My family and my husband’s family are in Detroit. I hate it here, but moving isn’t in the cards yet. The unemplyment rate is just under 8%. Large corporations are leaving left and right (ie. Comerica). We just had a government shutdown which led to an increase in taxes due to the state debt. Only Louisiana is worse off than we are, and that is due to a natural disaster (Hurricane Katrina). My husband and I have both been laid off numerous times. This past time, it took me almost 4 months to find a job. It’s feast or famine. Hence, my hesitation…..

I have a few sites that I started up but nobody visits them because nobody knows about them. But is this because I did not optimize my SE marketing or because I just did not push enough oomph into marketing in the first place? It seems that SEO is a buzzword but all it really is is optimization of your search engine marketing campaign. Ok I guess my question was, besides fighting for positions in the search engines, what other ways are good to market a brand new website. Adwords? I mean you have to get the word out. I don’t want to just OPTIMIZE my SE campaigns…I want to know how to use them to drive traffic to my websites without worrying about how google or yahoo “ranks” my site. There must be feasable ways to market a website with total disregard for what a search engine thinks of your efforts, right?
